Poetry Friday: Call for the Cybils

summer’s end
reading, blogging book love
cybils arrive

Yes, yes, yes, it’s THAT time of year. Not just the return to school but the CYBILS!  The Cybils have opened up the call for volunteers. It will stay open through August 31st, and we should announce the panels mid-September. As the organizer of the Poetry category, I am looking for those readers and bloggers who love, love, love poetry for children.  I want two well-rounded committees of teachers, writers, librarians, poets, parents, and athletes (remember March Poetry Madness?).

First round judges will read at least 30 poetry books(wouldn’t it be great to have more than thirty nominated?) to select the finalists for round two.  In the second round, committee members will read five to seven books to decide which poetry book has the triple threat in books: kid appeal, literary merit, and accessibility.  I mean, don’t we want to foster the love of poetry to children and young adults?

The deadline to apply is in two weeks, AUGUST 31. So don’t delay.

All the information you need to apply can be found here: http://www.cybils.com/2012/08/2012-cybils-call-for-judges.html#comments

Poetry Friday is at A Year of Reading. Thanks, Mary Lee.

Happy Reading.

  1. So tempting to apply, as I know it would be fun and worthwhile. Thanks for highlighting the opportunity! Certainly Amy and Linda and many other Poetry Friday veterans would make great judges … good luck to all.
