In January, Michelle at Today’s Little Ditty featured Joyce Sidman. The DMC was to write a poem expressing a ‘deeper truth’. Our fifth graders have researched nonfiction topics of their choice. So in library, I had them list what they remembered and then write a ‘deeper truth’ poem about their subject. I discovered that fifth graders needed a bit more scaffolding as well as talking about their poems being personification poems in a way. They rose to the occasion. Here’s three to share today. There will be more in the month.
