Poetry Friday: Found Word Poem

IMG_1077

Thanks to Julianne for hosting Poetry Friday today.

Last week, I shared a Found Word poem from Joy.  She sent me an envelope of words.

Today I created a word poem which is also a statement about my re-visioning my verse novel.  Verse Novel and I have been on a sabbatical.  I have been processing so much in my head about it.

As you can tell, Joy provided many words so I can create more word poems.

Please Put This on Your Radar

It’s almost time to apply to be a CYBILS judge.  This usually happens toward the end of August.  Always in great need for poetry people who are passionate about poetry.

The chair people are already discussing and planning for this year’s awards.  Stay tuned.

Happy Friday.

Poetry Friday: Snow

Thank you Keri for hosting today at Keri Recommends..

We wait for arrival of snow.
Temperatures drop
We bundle up in warm clothing.
We want to see how fast sleds go.
No fun sliding down the hill slow

We had our first snowy-icy storm of the season yesterday. Some districts closed and others like mine called for a two hour delay. While the television stations called the event “Snowvember”, there wasn’t much snow. But I wonder if this foreshadows what to expect this winter.

Happy Friday.
Happy Poetry.

Poetry Friday: Zeno Form

IMG_1077.JPG
Poetry Friday is hosted at Merely Day By Day. Thanks, Cathy.

Last night I read a zeno by by Carol Varsalona at Today’s Little Ditty.

It was invented by J. Patrick Lewis .
Here’s the challenge from him: I’d like to challenge your readers to write a “zeno,” which is a new verse form I invented. The zeno was inspired by the “hailstone sequence” in mathematics. I define a zeno as a 10-line poem with 8,4,2,1,4,2,1,4,2,1 syllables that rhyme abcdefdghd.

Driving to work yesterday was much like this:

First storm of autumn: drenching rain,
leaves tumble down.
Branches
sway.
Morning quiet,
darkness
stays.
Changing season
shortens
days.
